Lesson 46 Overview

Minna no Nihongo Lesson 46 focuses on expressing actions that are about to happen, just happened, currently happening, and situations that are expected or probable. This lesson is essential for daily conversation and JLPT preparation.


Bunkei (Sentence Patterns)

1.Kaigi wa ima kara hajimaru tokoro desu.

English: The meeting is about to start now.


2.Kare wa sangatsu ni daigaku o sotsugyō shita bakari desu.

English: He has just graduated from university in March.


3.Mirā-san wa kaigishitsu ni iru hazu desu.

English: Mr. Miller should be in the meeting room.


Reibun (Example Sentences)

1.Moshi moshi, Tanaka desu ga, ima ii desu ka.

English: Hello, this is Tanaka. Is now a good time?


Sumimasen. Densha ni noru tokoro nan desu.

English: Sorry, I’m just about to get on the train.


Ato de kochira kara denwa shimasu.

English: I’ll call you later.


2.Koshō no gen’in wa wakarimashita ka.

English: Have you found the cause of the problem?


Iie, ima shirabete iru tokoro desu.

English: No, we’re checking it right now.


3.Watanabe-san wa imasu ka.

English: Is Mr. Watanabe there?


A, tatta ima kaetta tokoro desu.

English: Oh, he just went home.


Mada erebētā no tokoro ni iru kamo shiremasen.

English: He might still be near the elevator.


4.Shigoto wa dō desu ka.

English: How is your job?


Sengetsu kaisha ni haitta bakari na node, mada yoku wakarimasen.

English: I just joined the company last month, so I don’t know much yet.


5.Kono bideo kamera, senshū katta bakari na noni, ugokanai n desu.

English: I bought this video camera last week, but it doesn’t work.


Ja, chotto misete kudasai.

English: Then please let me take a look.


6.Mirā-san wa mada desu ka.

English: Has Mr. Miller not arrived yet?


Sakki eki kara denwa ga arimashita kara, mōsugu kuru hazu desu.

English: He called from the station earlier, so he should arrive soon.


Kaiwa (Conversation)

Title: Senshū naoshite moratta bakari na noni, mata…

English: I just had it repaired last week, but again…


Khakariin: Hai, gasu sābisu sentā de gozaimasu.

English: Hello, this is the gas service center.


Tawapon: Anō, gasu renji no chōshi ga okashii n desu ga…

English: Um, the gas stove isn’t working properly.


Khakariin: Donna guai desu ka.

English: What kind of problem is it?


Tawapon: Senshū naoshite moratta bakari na noni, mata hi ga kiete shimau n desu.

English: I just had it repaired last week, but the flame keeps going out again.


Abunai node, sugu mi ni kite kuremasen ka.

English: It’s dangerous, so could you come and check it soon?


Khakriin: Wakarimashita. Goji-goro ni wa ikeru to omoimasu.

English: Understood. I think I can come around 5 o’clock.


Gojūsho to onamae o onegai shimasu.

English: Please give me your address and name.


Tawapon: Moshi moshi, goji-goro ni gasu renji o mi ni kite kureru hazu nan desu ga, mada desu ka.

English: Hello, you were supposed to come around 5 to check the gas stove. Are you not here yet?


Khakariin: Mōshiwake arimasen. Dochira-sama deshō ka.

English: I’m very sorry. May I ask who is calling?


Tawapon: Tawapon desu.

English: This is Tawapon.


Khakariin: Shōshō omachi kudasai. Kakariin ni renraku shimasu kara.

English: Please wait a moment. I will contact the staff.


Omatase shimashita. Ima sochira ni mukatte iru tokoro desu.

English: Thank you for waiting. He is on the way now.


Ato juppun hodo omachi kudasai.

English: Please wait about 10 more minutes.
